PROJECT WORKERS

Dr. Vijayan M.R, Founder and Chairman of Bodytree Trust India, had a traditional Ayurvedic upbringing and was trained by his grandfather & other tutors of traditional Ayurveda since the age of seven. He has traveled widely practicing & sharing his knowledge of community based approach to Ayurveda, Traditional Medicine, Yoga and other body work, specializing in marma and structural integration. For seven years, he was Head of the Department of Traditional Medicine and Physiotherapy at Gonoshashta Kendra, the People's Health Centre and University, Dhaka, Bangladesh. He is the Senior Consultant Physician at Bodytree.

Polly Jones Founder and Trustee of Bodytree Trust India, is a postgraduate from the UK who oversees the running of Bodytree's project, the administration and fundraising, provides training in management and administration, theatre education, English language and oral testimony techniques. She has spent many years carrying out research on indigenous knowledge systems, poverty and social exclusion, particularly with tribal communities in Bangladesh. She has been studying Pulse and Homeopathy during the last 2 years to assist the students with their studies.

Sunilkumar PS, Founder and Treasurer of Bodytree Trust India. Engineer, architect and designer. Sunil uses traditional architectural practices in his constructions. He teaches practice of Vasthusastra (Traditional Indian Architecture), architecture and physics.).

Sandeep Girija, Founder and Trustee of Bodytree Trust India. He is a Pharmacist/health practitioner, has extensive experience in hands on treatments with a sound knowledge of traditional medicine. He takes care of the Bodytree's pharmacy, medicinal plant garden and carries out come treatments at Bodytree. He trains the students in the preparation of medicines, common health treatments using traditional methods, panchakarma treatments and a newly devised solar powered cooking system.

Lakshmikuttiamma Khani, Adivasi medicine practitioner who provides training and supervision for the treatment of poisonous bites and stings.

Chandran Khani, Adivasi medicine practitioner who provides training and supervision for the treatment of bone injuries and local medicinal plants.

Ravi, Caretaker, traditional medicine vet and gardener. He looks after the animals, maintains the medicinal garden, the campus, riverside, biogas and composting.

Siji Khani, Artist who has responsibility for maintaining the arts and crafts programme

Latha and Aji Khani with their three children Kavia, Sneha and Nirmal and Latha's sister Shamla and her daughter Ammu are community members who have been stay at Bodytree. They manage the kitchen and living quarters, grow organic vegetables, manage the biogas and recycling system

2 masons, Baiju and Suresh who develop buildings using traditional techniques and locally available material (especially mud, bamboo and coconut leaves). They offer training to the local community, and receive training from visiting guests from different Indian indigenous communities.

Two specialists in Northeast Indian tribal architecture, Dhimman Chakma and Ashish Chakma who offer three month training programmes once a year.

Jayan, trains students computer skills and driving lessons to the students.
